PTD helps Harrison Drury keep on the right side of the law with office move

Paul Turner Displays has helped Lancashire law firm Harrison Drury with its move to stunning new offices in the heart of Preston’s professional district. The firm, which was established over 100 years ago, provides a range of legal services for businesses as well as private individuals.

Paul Turner Displays (PTD) was briefed with a complex project due to Harrison Drury’s new Grade II listed office being located within a conservation district. It needed meticulous thought and consideration of the type of signage that would work and remain in keeping with the historic status of the area.

Working with the branding and design team of Harrison Drury’s retained PR and communications advisers, Freshfield, and in consultation with Preston City Council, PTD was able to remove all the signage from the old office and reuse most of it in the new location, leading to cost savings.

PTD also developed and installed a series of new office signage including:

  • Covering all the downstairs windows with etch effect vinyl in keeping with the age of the building.
  • Contour cutting the reception sign out of 10mm white acrylic and fixing it on raised studs behind the reception desk giving a very effective and modern 3D effect.
  • Producing a bespoke engraved plaque in stainless brushed steel for the outside of the building.
  • Reusing the existing ‘Partner’ acrylics name plates as well as adding new names

On the project, Samit Nayi, Freshfield’s branding and design director, comments, “In any new office move, the signage is a dominant representation of a company’s progression and image. Paul and his team developed a first rate solution and helped us overcome some tricky planning restrictions. The client is delighted.”

ROLLSROLLER is the 'Blueprint' for huge savings in time and material

Supplied and installed by UK distributor William Smith, the ROLLSROLLER Flatbed Applicator is enabling huge savings in production time and material wastage at Blueprint Nottingham. The company is the leading East Midlands-based provider of large-format graphics and in particular those used for vehicle wraps, internal point-of-sale, banners and posters for which the machine has provided an ideal cost-saving finishing solution.

Founder and Director, Richard Monk comments, "The ROLLSROLLER, with its single-operator capability, is much easier to use and faster than the previous manual method of finishing employed which required two people to mask, for example, 1,220 digital prints but which can now be carried out by just one person and in a fraction of the time. The machine has saved us a lot of man hours and in view of the compact design of the applicator there is little that could be exposed to damage, leading to problem-free operation."

The ROLLSROLLER installed at Blueprint incorporates the optional illuminated glass bed. This greatly increases the accuracy with which materials (particularly those used for multi-coloured or translucent graphics applications) can be applied, leading to minimal wastage and a much higher quality of finished product.

A typical recent project undertaken by Blueprint in which the ROLLSROLLER played a pivotal part in its success was the wrapping of 600 cars with an Olympic theme, all of which required masking using the machine, added Richard Monk.

Spectral Design puts finishing touches to Porsche GT3 with Metamark film

Spectral Design has vamped up a Porsche GT3 with the help of Metamark's MD-CF4 film.  The company added a carbon fibre roof and bonnet enhancement to the car recently at its Hook, Hampshire-based premises.

Carbon fibre parts virtually defy gravity in being so light, but are immensely strong and are now used in all manner of structural applications. The carbon enhancements Spectral fitted enjoy the benefits of being applied over existing panel work structure, they look like carbon fibre, but cost the client a tiny fraction of the price he’d be expected to pay for the real articles.

Spectral used Metamark MD-CF4 for the panels. Cut and applied, the application is hard to distinguish from the real thing. It not only looks the part, and even feels it too, the film protects the underlying paint from road-rash and stone chips. The panels are expertly applied with no deviations in the Metamark MD-CF4’s weave texture being apparent.

Intelligent branding opportunity from Toyoya with IQ vehicle wrap competition

Allen Signs has joined forces with Listers Toyota and Ruddocks Design and Print to offer Lincolnshire businesses the opportunity to win a 'wrapped' Toyota IQ car advertising their business for three months.  The competition has been launched to give businesses across Lincolnshire the chance to promote their company in an eye-catching manner.

James Boughton-Thomas, Listers Toyota, centre principal, comments, “The competition is a great way for us to get the IQ out and about in Lincoln and for local companies to find out how good it really is.  The IQ is a fantastic car which lends itself well to promoting a business with its large doors and side panels and at the same time it gives the business a helping hand. It’s a win-win situation because it also means that our car is being used by a potential customer.”

The first winner will receive a brand new registration car in September and, with the expertise of branding specialists Ruddocks Design and Print, will benefit from an effective, eye-catching design to promote their business or brand.

Andy Clayton, marketing manager at Ruddocks, says, “Not only will the winner receive a car for three months, but we will also be able to offer them a powerful marketing tool giving their brand key exposure. We look forward to working with the winning business to send out the right message for them.”

The designs will be produced by Allen Signs using specialist wrapping vinyl onto the stylish new Toyota IQ. Glen Merryweather, sales and marketing manager at Allen Signs, adds, “We are looking forward to working closely with Listers and Ruddocks on this project, offering help and advice along the way.  We will print full colour artwork using wrapping vinyl and wrap the IQ to turn the design created into reality.

“At Allen Signs we focus on making your first impression count.  Vehicle wrapping is a great platform for businesses to promote themselves.  Research shows that an effective vehicle wrap in a city centre will be seen 1000’s of times per hour whilst it is on the road.  By listening to and working closely with the winning business we hope to provide them with the tools to lead them to a successful three months of marketing.”

Lincolnshire-based businesses can apply online at www.ruddocks.co.uk, or by contacting Allen Signs on 01522 501500 or Listers Toyota on 01522 522097. The closing date for entries for the competition is 10th September 2012.

RJ Display and Heskins 'ramp up' their activities for London 2012

RJ Display and Heskins, the leading experts in anti-slip tape, joined forces to produce the BMX start ramp for the Olympic games.

RJ Display was approached by Lancashire-based Heskins to help them fulfill a request to produce and install the anti-slip tape following Heskins' previous successful installation at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Using its AGFA :Jeti 3348 Jetspeed to create the iconic London 2012 logo, RJ Display printed 1m x 10m lengths for ease of transport and then Heskins pieced them back together to form the 10 metre2 branded ramp ready for the BMX athletes to begin their race for gold.

Damon Piall, RJ Display's commercial director said, “London 2012 has been incredible for Great Britain and we’re really pleased to have been given the opportunity to be a part of it.”

Spectral Design and Print uses Metamark M7 to create 'head-turning' BMW

One great thing about high performance cars is that their owners are usually discerning to the extent that they understand how to further improve them so they handle just a little better, get from A to B safely in just a little less time and maybe turn a few more heads in their direction as they do so. A case in point recently found its way to Hampshire-based Spectral Design and Print.

The car, a BMW M1, had just been released from the care of KW Suspensions having had a V3 fast road and track system fitted. KW Suspensions’ technicians suggested that the M1’s owner get in touch with Spectral and consider a few cosmetic touches to distinguish the car even further from the relative handful of other M1s it may cross.

It’s second time around for the BMW M1 model designation and the new car couldn’t be any more different from the first one to wear the badge. The latest M1 looks like a BMW compact and it is, but under the skin it has a BMW M power plant and the transmission and engineering to do it justice.

Spectral prescribed a restrained enhancement to the car’s design with the addition of a gloss black roof to match the car’s de-chromed components and gloss black trim. Lee Glen and the team at Spectral turned to Metamark M7 and to some well-honed application skills to produce a result that stands really close scrutiny and could be mistaken for paint.

The Metamark M7 was applied under continuous radiant heat to keep the film workable, localised heat was applied where and when needed to help it conform on tighter compound curves and water was used in order to manage the development of the bond during application. The heat helped the Metamark M7 to develop an even higher gloss and with nothing more than a buff, the result is a real head-turner.

Spectral is well known for its application expertise and the BMW M1 is yet another testimonial on wheels for the company. The job also demonstrates that while practically anything is possible in terms of cosmetic enhancement with digital print and technically developed media , sometimes the best results happen with the most subtle of treatments.
