FESPA Digital 2011 played host to the third lap of the FESPA Wrap Cup Masters Series in Hamburg last week, where Danish printers Sun Wrap took first place. Lindahl Wrapping, also from Denmark, came second. The competitive series, which is taking place in eight stages over three years, is set to culminate in a grand World Wrap Cup Master finale at FESPA 2013 in London. In London, SunWrap.dk will compete against Miller Decals, winners of the FESPA Americas 2011 leg, and winners of future wrap cup competitions.
A total of 28 teams arrived in Hamburg to take part in the competition which promised each competitor a 1,500€ prize package of vouchers for software, vinyl and tools. The four finalists were awarded a 6,000€ package while the first and second placed teams chose from a Mutoh Kona 1400 cutter and a Royal Sovereign Laminator.
Within each stage of the competition, a collection of prestigious cars provide a blank canvas for vinyl mastery. At FESPA Digital 2011 in Hamburg, the competitors wrapped a Smart Car to match the one driven to Hamburg by FESPA’s Digital Man.
Head judge Rob Ivers, founder of the PDAA (Professional Decal Application Alliance), comments: “This was the most competitive of the Wrap Cup Series events so far. The quality of the finished cars easily surpassed previous stages and the competitors were all world-class. Despite this, Sun Wrap’s completed car was a clear winner as it represented a near perfect wrap. These guys will be serious competitors in the 2013 finale. The event is also proving to be increasingly popular for show visitors, with bigger audiences than we have seen at previous shows.”
Also on the judging panel in Hamburg were Michael Meyer of F+Z and Mafred Ratajczak of Digital Designware (Germany), Paul Koch from Signbase (The Netherlands) and Ole Ravn (Denmark). Each judge used their expert knowledge to evaluate the contestants on both the speed and quality of their wraps.
Jesper Sølager, Owner of SunWrap.dk comments: “It was a really exciting competition, with many truly talented car wrappers competing, and it was a very close run race. We felt very comfortable during the competition and we had to control our nerves all the way to the final, so I was glad that in the end we managed to pull off a perfect wrap.
“The prizes we received were fantastic, but for us, the status of Wrap Cup Champion is the best reward. We are now really looking forward to the competition at FESPA 2013 in London, but I wouldn’t want to be a judge there. The competition will be fierce and they will have to be very strict as everyone will fight hard for the title. No matter what, our team will give 100%.”
