Large-format graphics solutions provider Digital Print Innovations (DPI) announces today that Northern Irish display producer Alexander Boyd has purchased an Esko Artwork Kongsberg XP24 digital cutting table at the Sign and Digital UK exhibition in Birmingham, UK. The company augmented its investment with a complementary software package for full control of the machine, which sports a speed of 100sq m/hour across a table area of 1.68 x 3.05m for cutting, creasing and milling.

The Esko Artwork Kongsberg XP24 is a high-speed production cutting table for finishing the wide-format output that Alexander Boyd produces on its variety of HP printers, which range up to 3.2m flat-bed machines. Capable of finishing a vast array of materials, from single flute corrugated and foam to MDF, Plexiglas and aluminium, the Esko Artwork Kongsberg XP24’s milling unit is equipped with a wide range of drilling options which the machine selects according to the substrate.

After reviewing a number of cutting and routing options to upgrade its previous, manual equipment, Alexander Boyd chose to purchase the machine through DPI to meet the demands of its increased output, having invested heavily in digital technologies in recent years. The company, which is more than 60 years old and employs some 45 members of staff, has evolved since its inception to incorporate the best in display making engineering in order to service fully its core markets of outdoor advertising and indoor retail and point-of-sale work.

“We wanted to offer more intricate and innovative designs to our retail point-of-sale customers, while also increasing finishing throughput for our larger, outdoor work, and the Esko Artwork Kongsberg XP24 table from DPI allows us to do both,” says Barry Desmond, sales and marketing manager for Alexander Boyd. “Having researched all the options and all the channels, we liked the prospect of DPI’s full service and support, and their commitment to helping us get the most out of our investment.”

“The flexibility that the Esko Artwork Kongsberg range of cutters can offer sign and display companies is unparalleled,” adds Stewart Bell, managing director of Digital Print Innovations. “Alexander Boyd is a prime example of a business that needs fast throughput for short- and long-run outdoor applications as well as the capability to tackle attractive, complex retail work. Sign and Digital UK proved to be the right showcase and we look forward to helping them as they realise the full potential and power of their new cutter.”
