The inaugural Sign & Digital UK Awards, held last March at the National Motorbike Museum near Birmingham NEC, were hailed a great success. This year, the Awards will be held on the 28th of March at the same venue and are open to all signmakers, print providers, display professionals, suppliers and manufacturers and provide an important platform to highlight the best talent and creative thinking in the UK display market.

One of the winners of the first ever Sign & Digital UK Awards in 2011 was The Wild Group.  “Our team was thrilled to win a national prize for the work in creating a sail that was used to promote the hit film Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” explains Clare Hoar, PR and Marketing at The Wild Group.

The sail – with the film’s title emblazoned across the middle – was commissioned by 20th Century Fox to promote the film, which has made over £240 million worldwide since its release.   Clare continues, “It was great to be part of such an exciting project, but to then be nominated and go on to win the prestigious Sign & Digital UK Award for Best Textile Printing Project was just fantastic. Company moral rocketed and the team was proud to receive recognition for all the hard work and impressive projects we’ve worked on over the years.”

“Since winning the award we have received a lot of coverage in the industry press, this has been great for increasing the company’s profile by ranking us as one of the top, most skilled signwriters in the UK,” she adds.  “Our team has been specialising in unusual wraps from colour change of high end cars to curved hull shapes and sails for years now and since the award we have gone from strength to strength.”

The Wild Group now has teams of fitters in France and Florida as well as throughout the UK.  According to Ms Hoar, they thoroughly enjoyed the event socially and found it to be useful for networking with the key players in the industry.

The Sign & Digital UK Awards is an annual event aimed at encouraging signmakers and digital print providers to focus on and develop their creative skills and techniques in sign and display and is the UK’s most prestigious open competition for the sign and display market.
