Independent printers lead the HP PageWide XL way with Stanford Marsh

Stanford Marsh, a leading independent solutions provider for the wide-format and 3D print sectors – and one of only three UK vendors permitted to supply and service HP’s new PageWide XL Series of products – has announced two new customers for HP’s PageWide XL printing technology.

Both companies - Quickprint Exeter and International Copy Shop - are independent printers and have been able to quickly invest in – and take advantage of – the PageWide XL technology thanks to their forward-thinking outlook and autonomy in making decisions.

Quickprint Exeter

Already utilising an eco-solvent wide format printer and an HP Z6800 printer for outdoor, signage and photo work, Quickprint Exeter was looking to replace its Xerox monochrome LED plan printer with a solution that could deliver cost effective and high quality colour and black and white printing output from a single device.

Stanford Marsh arranged a demonstration to show Quickprint Exeter the capabilities of the HP PageWide product range and the company subsequently became one of the first printers in the UK to implement the HP PageWide XL5000 MFP Copy, Print and Scan solution.

Quickprint Exeter’s managing director Danny Frayne explains: “Printing is a very competitive industry. Our business is constantly evolving to keep up with the latest trends, so adopting new technologies that can add or enhance the services we provide is important to our ongoing success.”

On opting for PageWide technology, he adds: “The speed and quality required for the quick turnaround of CAD line drawings for the construction industry, rendered images, GIS maps and high-resolution scanning and copying for our customers was a key factor when selecting our upgrade, as these are often time-critical. However, the HP PageWide XL printer – which runs at five times lower energy consumption than LED models – has the added advantage of being able to provide the fast production of posters on a range of media from the same machine. This has opened open other markets to us – in fact, one of the first jobs completed on the PageWide was for a large number of A1 colour posters.”

International Copy Shop

International Copy Shop (ICS), located at NEC Birmingham, invested in a new HP PageWide XL 5000 multifunctional printer in a deal signed at Sign & Digital UK 2016. The printer was installed in May 2016 and has been a great success.

Stanford Marsh’s Julian Mennell explains: “The HP PageWide project with International Copy Shop evolved over a period of time. Their requirements started off with looking at adding colour scanning capabilities to the bureau. However – after reviewing the ageing kit within the business – I suggested that they should look at PageWide technology.

“During a demonstration, we were able to show the benefits of HP PageWide XL in replacing multiple machines and offering a cheaper and faster turnaround for ICS customers. This fast turnaround is critical for ICS due to its location and the demands of the companies exhibiting at the NEC. ICS’s workload is varied and includes plan drawings right through to point of sale, outdoor banners and more.”

SmartStream Workflow software

Both Quickprint Exeter and International Copy Shop have opted for the SmartStream workflow software which enables quick and easy submission of multiple print files. An image of each file can be viewed prior to printing which highlights any errors within the file for correction. By eliminating errors within files, print jobs are produced perfectly, and waste or misprints are eliminated.

Inclusive service contract from Stanford Marsh

Both companies have opted for an inclusive service contract from Stanford Marsh. For ICS and Quickprint Exeter, these contracts – which can be tailored to meet any individual customer’s needs – cover all service click throughput charges for inclusive part replacement and labour, inks, heads and associated consumables, meaning that customers’ funds do not need to be tied into stock as billing is paid quarterly in arrears.

Quickprint’s Danny Frayne adds: “We also chose the inclusive service contract from Stanford Marsh which meant that consumable items, parts and labour were covered along with planned maintenance visits. This – combined with information we get from the embedded web server – means we know exactly how much each print is costing us to produce.”

Independent printers leading the way

Due to their ability to make decisions quickly, independent printers are leading the way in the PageWide market.

Matthew Perkins, Director at Stanford Marsh, concludes: “Independent printers are more flexible and able to make a quicker decision with their technology upgrades than larger copy shop chains. With the demands of the construction industry particularly requiring quick turnaround of construction drawings, the HP PageWide XL Series allows independent printers to compete with faster lead times and – most importantly – competitive yet profitable pricing.

“The added advantage of additional applications offers incremental business opportunities without tying up valuable costly floor space with additional hardware.”
