As the trend for product wrapping continues to increase in both the commercial and private space, so too does the number of signmakers looking to diversify into this area.

In response to this expanding market, Antalis, Europe’s leading distributor of paper, packaging solutions and visual communications products, has launched the Oracal 970 range from Orafal, a portfolio of premium wrapping casts.

A multi-layered, high performance cast PVC film (100 micron), Oracal 970 has been specially developed for complete product wrapping, particularly on vehicles. Engineered to the highest technological standards with a built-in protective clear coat layer, it’s highly durable and delivers outstanding dimensional stability and gloss retention with no over-laminate required.

Oracal is available in 30 popular colours in gloss, matt and metallic finishes, as well as a super matt option in black, and includes multi-layered shift effect casts for mesmerising multi-colour effects.

Suitable for uneven and corrugated surfaces as well as rivets and corrugations, RapidAir® Technology is also available, allowing for easy application and the avoidance of air bubbles. A grey solvent-based, repositionable, permanent adhesive means that, with heat, the PVC cast can be removed with little or no adhesive residue for up to four years.

Chris Green, Channel Head for Sign and Display at Antalis UK, comments: “The interest in product wrapping for personalisation, branding and advertising continues to grow, with vehicles remaining the primary market. Within vehicle wrapping, end customers range from motor sport teams and corporates with large fleets, to footballers looking for a bespoke finish on their vehicle.

“With the UK vehicle wrap vinyl market growing, the demand for increasingly creative effects has driven rapid product development. Orafal is one of the leading suppliers to this market and we’re delighted to be launching Oracal 970, their premium range of wrapping casts for our customers.”

Continued market growth means that Oracal 970 won’t just be catching the eye of vehicle wrapping specialists, but will also help more mainstream signmakers upskill and enter the marketplace. At Antalis’ Digital Academy, launched to support customers looking to invest in digital print and expand their business portfolio, they have seen a marked increase in customers looking to take this step.

Chris continues: “Historically this sort of product wrapping has been seen as too specialist for mainstream signmakers but technological advances and simplified application means that an increasing number of signmakers are diversifying into this area. There’s no doubt that vehicle wrapping still requires the right know-how and set-up to deliver but we’re partnering with more and more customers to help them diversify their offering in this area.”

The Antalis Digital Academy is currently offering ‘An Introduction to Vehicle Wrapping and Vinyl Application’ and ‘The Complete Vehicle Wrap’ workshop courses. Full details of current workshops and dates can be found at www.digital2business.co.uk/digital-academy.
