Innotech Digital client Specialist Signs recently created a ‘killer' wall display that's a real feast for the eyes, thanks to General Formulations Wallmark Canvas.
The Bourne-based Specialist Signs company was approached by Jimmy's Killer Prawns, a South African business, to create bespoke wall coverings for its new restaurant in Leicester. The installation needed to cover both plasterboard and a wooden frame around a doorway, so they needed a media that would give a consistent finish.
Bob Southwell from Specialist Signs said: "It's long term installation in a new store for them, so the finish had to be top quality and to match their previous installations. We took advice from Innotech on the vinyls in their range to decide on the best one for the job. While price is always a factor, we needed to make sure that the media we chose was suitable for a long term installation, taking into account the make up of the walls.
"We chose the General Formulations Wallmark Canvas as a trial for this job and we were really pleased with the results using our HP Latex 560 printer as the colours are really nice. It was easy to line up and tended to hold on its own - some vinyls can stretch in all directions when they get hot while printing, but this lined up well with no distortion, and it wasn't overly tacky but did grab.
"Installation was a one man job and it took just 2-3 hours, so it was a good result. We'll definitely use the Wallmark Canvas again - in fact we've already bought some into stock. It's value for money, the clients were happy, especially with the embossed finish, and it gives as good a result as some of the more expensive films."
General Formulations Wallmark Canvas is removable and can be reapplied a number of times due to its microsphere beaded adhesive, making it fast and easy to install. All the General Formulations range are polymeric five year products, meaning there is very little shrinkage compared to normal monomeric products.
"There's a growing trend for unique wall displays in all kinds of industries including hospitality, retail, and entertainment," added Bob, "especially for one off events or where people are in rented space, making permanent displays difficult. While it may be possible to paint on walls, that can leave layers that will show through when papered over.
"By using vinyls we can create stunning displays that can be easily removed - we even did a job recently for an event that ran over just one weekend, proving that vinyl is the perfect solution for seasonal promotions, sales and so on - whenever you want to make an impact without having a permanent effect."
Marketing manager for Innotech Digital, Kieran Dallow commented: "General Formulations produce a huge range of quality medias for Solvent, Eco-Solvent, Latex and UV Curable printers. Their specialist medias can be used on carpets, warehouse, floors, walls, motorbikes, cars and commercial vehicles and installed in restaurants, classrooms, offices, homes and retail outlets, amongst others. We hold stock of all their most popular ranges, allowing our printing and signmaking customers to create brilliant new products for a greater variety of markets than before."
