Océ announces 3D graphics campaign to coincide with launch of 3D Film Pure

To coincide with the launch of its new 3D Film Pure media, Océ Supplies has launched a campaign to demonstrate how customers printing 3D graphics can ‘influence the psychological impact of viewers in terms of experienced realism, power and presence’.

3D Film Pure has been designed to demonstrate advertising in a groundbreaking format to help customers stand out from the crowd and build new business opportunities through adding value with 3D advertising messages.  It’s the latest development in the optical art phenomenon – the art of capturing movement, hidden images and illusion – that first gained prominence in the 1960s.

On the introduction of the new media, Dominic Fahy, Océ UK’s Director of Display Graphics and Imaging Supplies, comments, “In an entire day we’re likely to see an estimated 5000 advertising messages. This equates to as many advertising messages in a year as our parents saw in their entire lives. It means we now have to make an effort to receive the information promoted to us because we are developing the ability to screen the majority out.”

“According to a number of studies the third dimension influences the psychological impact of viewers in terms of experience realism, in terms of experienced realism, power and presence. Our minds are not used to this new dimension and therefore instinctively try to make sense of the images in front of us," he continues.  “Our sub-conscious pays attention, our conscience becomes aware and we take note of the content because it is presented in a way we are not used to seeing and have not learnt to screen out. Ultimately, if you want to stand out from the crowd, get noticed and be unique, 3D advertising is the way forward.”

Free 'colour change' vehicle wrap swatch now available from All Print Supplies

All Print Supplies (APS) has announced an updated version of its Colour Change vinyl swatch which includes over 170 different polymeric and cast colour change films from major manufacturers such as MACtac and KPMF.

The free swatch includes a range of some of the most popular products on the market including  KPMF K70000 opaque gloss, metallic and glitter cast vinyls,  MACtac TF700 Sublime opaque gloss and matt polymeric vinyls with micro bubble-free adhesive, MACtac TF iridescent, textured, brushed and carbon fibre vinyls and supreme wrap opaque 80μ dual layer cast vinyls with ‘Easy-To-Apply’ adhesive.

Kevin Wallace, managing director of Slough-based APS, comments, “All the films in our new swatch have been specifically developed for full and partial vehicle wraps.  This market has grown substantially over the last five years as businesses recognise the cost savings and flexibility a vehicle wrap can offer over a traditional professional paint job. Typically, these films will last for over five years, change and improve the appearance of the vehicle, protect the bodywork from stone chips and can be easily removed prior to resale.”

To encourage wider format printers and sign makers to extend their services and grow revenue streams, APS is also offering to organise training courses to help those who are considering venturing into this lucrative and rapidly expanding sector.

Kevin Wallace adds, “The vehicle wrapping sector has seen huge growth over the past few years and there are some exciting new substrates available on the market.  It’s an area of the printing industry that has, I believe, a very positive future and I would encourage those looking for new and profitable services to add to their portfolio to seriously investigate the opportunities in this sector.”

Each of the vinyls contained in the swatch is available under APS’s “Buy the metre” programme, where there is no minimum order, allowing customers to buy only what they need.

William Smith supports PVL UK with stunning rebranding project

When PVL UK won a major rebranding contract, William Smith demonstrated its capabilities to work in partnership with sign and graphics companies to help them fulfil large contracts within very tight deadlines.

Top quality wrapping material and assured supply and delivery were key to PVL UK fulfilling the re-branding project for global service company AVC. For this reason the company selected 3M’s IJ180Cv3 wrapping vinyl and chose William Smith as its supplier. Overall, some 18,000sq.m. of material was used to wrap over 1,000 vehicles.

As part of their vehicle renewal programme, AVC was looking to re-brand all their vehicles in line with a nationwide brand rollout. The vehicles, a combination of new and previously marked, were based all over the UK and in daily service use.

“The challenge was to re-brand all the vehicles in a short timescale at multiple locations, removing existing livery first where already fitted,” explains PVL UK’s managing director, Nick Broom. “An additional challenge was to come up with a solution to the requirement that some vehicles were required to display a choice of AVC or their ultimate client, Sky’s branding.”

“Initially we worked with AVC to develop their chosen snow leopard imagery into artwork suitable for printing large enough to cover the side of the van models, then we came up with branded magnetic panels that would overlay the underlying image perfectly. We then worked closely with their vehicle suppliers and AVC’s own fleet and regional managers at multiple locations to ensure that the right vehicles were available to be wrapped on an ongoing programme.”

At its production base in Sussex, PVL printed and produced the wraps for each batch of vehicles, shipping complete sets of graphics for up to 40 vehicles per week. The company’s team of experienced fitters then ensured that each vehicle was fitted with identical livery and the associated magnetic panels.

3M Controltac IJ180Cv3 is a short to long term removable film for inkjet and screen printing. It incorporates 3M’s Controltac™ pressure activated adhesive, which allows the graphic to be repositioned during application, making larger graphics easier to apply, and Comply version 3 (Cv3).  Comply provides invisible air channels which allows trapped air to escape enabling faster installation with an improved finished appearance. It offers good conformability and can be applied in extreme hot and cold temperatures. IJ180Cv3 is suitable for simple vehicle wraps, vehicle livery and advertising wraps and comes with 10 years durability and 6 years MCS warranty.

“We have been delighted with the finished results achieved with the 3M vehicle wrapping film, and the service from William Smith was second to none, with on-time delivery throughout a very tight production schedule, enabling us to meet our commitment to our client in full,” adds Mr. Broom.

Vehicle wrapping materials from William Smith are available as full, part or custom slit rolls and same day despatch is provided on full or part roll orders received up to 6.00pm.

Sihl Direct UK announces new backlit films for Latex print

Sihl Direct UK has introduced two new backlit films for Latex printing.   Designed specifically for use with latex inks, the new polyester films - the Vivalux Backlit Latex 125 matt 3746, and the Vivalux Backlit Heavy Latex 200 matt 3747 - have the same coating.  A much thicker polyester film is used with the Latex 200 allowing better handling.

Ian Turnbull, Operations Director at Sihl Direct UK, says, “The introduction of latex inks has generated new printing opportunities for the indoor and outdoor large format market. However, the existing print media was letting the new inks down, mainly because the latex inks needed to be hardened at temperatures of up to 100 degrees. For most media, this temperature results in a finished product that is wavy or crinkled.”

This issue has driven the need for the development of a polyester film capable of withstanding the high temperatures without becoming wavy.

Turnbull continues “We have spent a lot of time and effort developing new print media that work with the latex inks, and we are delighted with the new Vivalux Backlit films. Images printed using this media has a very high colour density and brilliance, is very durable and is waterproof, perfect for use indoors but also outdoors.”

The Vivalux range of Backlit films for Latex inks is available immediately from Sihl Direct UK and authorised resellers.
