It is now five years since William Smith first introduced the RollsRoller Flatbed Applicator and its popularity with signmaking companies of all sizes shows no sign of diminishing.

“The RollsRoller continues to have significant impact not only on large sign manufacturers but also on smaller businesses, which are finding it an invaluable asset,” says William Smith’s Marketing Manager, Chris Bradley. “Once seen in action, it becomes a ‘must have’ – and once purchased, it becomes indispensable. In fact, a growing number of signmakers have been so delighted with it that they now have more than one RollsRoller.”

  • “As far as we are concerned the RollsRoller is an essential addition to our facilities. Although it is an expensive outlay it has been well worth the cost.” – Craig Hill, Impact Signs & Designs
  • “Our two RollsRollers must have paid for themselves several times over in the time that we have had them. Plus, we have been able to pass on the benefits to our customers, as we can put tenders in at a better price because we can process the work faster.” – Lee Cundill, Spencer Signs

The RollsRoller has enabled signmakers to increase profitability, discover new ways of working, and even opened up new business opportunities.

  • “It has enabled us to undertake vinyl wall covering prints with face laminate that would have been very difficult to do before we had the machine.” – Alvin Morris, Signs Express (Warrington)
  • “We now use the RollsRoller for almost all of our Signmaking applications and all sizes of signage; we no longer do any hand applications. It processes the work faster and with a much better appearance. It has increased productivity and quality massively; we can now handle a much higher volume of work. And it couldn’t be easier to use – our operators love it!”” – Paul McNair, Airport Advertising

The RollsRoller is a simple and accurate way to apply self-adhesive films or application tapes to many flat and dry substrates. It is suitable for use on flexible face skins and banners, large format digital prints and other self-adhesive materials, as well as rigid sign panels up to 70mm thick. It is easy to install, space saving, time saving, offers increased productivity and efficiency, and provides a safer working environment.

  • “We wanted to speed up our production process and the RollsRoller has certainly enabled us to achieve that aim. For example, production of 500 A4 plaques with graphics to the reverse took less than a day, where previously it would have taken four to five days to complete. Not only is it quick, it’s very easy to use. It ‘does what it says on the tin’.” – Thomas Somers, Signs Express (Lancaster)
  • “It produces a nicer, more professional job than wet lamination and with none of the associated mess. So we have the added benefit of a clean working environment.” – Lee Cundill, Spencer Signs
  • “There are significant savings on speed and quality of ‘lay’ to all vinyl products and the built-in bench with its under-base lighting also assists, especially when weeding vinyl. Visibility is better and hence the use of scalpels is made safer.” – Alvin Morris, Signs Express (Warrington)

Eleven standard models of RollsRoller are now available, ranging in size from the shortest 280 model, at just 2800mm long x 1450mm wide, to the most popular 540 model at 5400mm x 1700mm, through to the longest 1080 model, at 10080mm long x 1700mm wide. There are six illuminated models and five non-illuminated, with an option of MDF or glass bed on the 280 model. Optional extras include adjustable work height (from 800mm to 1100mm) to accommodate the needs of individual operators so they can enjoy a comfortable working position; and extension tables to extend the working area for large banners, flexible skins and signs.

  • “When we purchased the RollsRoller we were looking not only for time and labour savings but improved health and safety. Since the machine was installed we have seen a reduction in back problems as well as general welfare benefits.” – Craig Hill, Impact Signs & Designs
  • “With eleven different models, there’s something that will fit into any size of workshop.  And if anyone is in any doubt as to whether they can get a RollsRoller into their workshop, they can rest assured that our experienced installation engineers will help them find a way!” concludes Chris Bradley.
  • “William  Smith’s installation team was quick, efficient and tidy, even though they had to split the machine in half to bring it into our premises. Their initial survey was essential and aided the planned installation.” – Alvin Morris, Signs Express (Warrington)
  • “It was a very tight and difficult installation that took four hours to complete,” says Morgan Signs’ Manager, Rod Hill. “The RollsRoller was lifted by gantry to first floor level, turned on its side in order to pass through double doors into the workroom and then swung round into position. William Smith’s engineers measured and drew up a plan beforehand and everything went absolutely accurately.” – Rod Hill, Morgan Signs

RollsRoller demonstrations can be seen at William Smith’s Barnard Castle site and at a series demonstration days around the country.
