New metallic iridescent inkjet photo papers from Mitsubishi HiTec Paper

At Photokina 2010, Mitsubishi HiTec Paper has introduced two impressive new media for photo printing: jetscript IG 2577 and IL 2576.

Both grades are top-class microporous, resin coated inkjet photo papers with a substance of 260 g/sqm and a unique metallic iridescent surface effect. While jetscript IG 2577 offers a high gloss surface, jetscript IL 2576 imposes with a special lustre pearlescent finish. The metallic look of the iridescent finish guarantees eye-catching prints in advertising, photo or graphic-art.

Thanks to the special ink absorption layer, even high ink amounts dry rapidly and the printouts are water- and smear-resistant after drying. Both products have been developed for applications in the desktop and large-format printing area and are universally printable with all common dye-, pigmented- and UltraChrome (K3) inks. Mitsubishi HiTec Paper offers both grades as sheets (A4; A3; A3+), plotter rolls (17; 24; 36; 42; 44”) and jumbo roll (2,200m).

Feather flags make a splash for 2011 Junior World Rowing event

Di Ellis, CBE, Chairman of British Rowing

Hampshire Flag Company is playing a key part in the promotion of next year’s FISA World Rowing Junior Championships thanks to the production of two feather flags.

The leading flag manufacturer donated the 2.4m single-sided feather flags, along with spike and x-bases, to British Rowing - the sport’s governing body - for a series of events this summer held to encourage volunteers and spectators to attend the Championships at Eton Dorney in August 2011.

The feather flags were taken to the Henley Women’s Regatta, the National Schools Regatta and the British Rowing Championships in Strathclyde to raise awareness of the date and to encourage spectators not to book holidays during 4-7 August next year.

Di Ellis, CBE, Chairman of British Rowing said, “Raising awareness this summer is essential to ensure a successful, well-attended and strongly supported event next year.

“The World Rowing Junior Championships is an exciting and once in a lifetime opportunity for many of this country’s young athletes. We are delighted with the impact the feather flags have had and we are extremely grateful for Hampshire Flag’s generosity,” added Di.

Hampshire Flag’s team of 21 produces hand-sewn national and international flags and digitally printed banners.

Graham Wilkinson, Managing Director of the Waterlooville firm said, “Feather flags are a striking, eye-catching and contemporary way of communicating and we are extremely pleased with the Junior Championship feather flags.

“This is set to be fantastic event and one which will encourage many young people, both the participants and the spectators. It was a privilege to donate the two feather flags and we wish the organisers and the rowers all the very best for next year’s Championships,” added Graham.

Hampshire Flag also offers a bespoke flag design service, PVC banners, marine flags, bunting, table flags, exhibition graphics and event systems in addition to the supply and installation an extensive range of flagpoles.

Its prestigious portfolio of clients includes Selfridges, the BBC, Channel 4, Portsmouth Football Club, IBM and British Airways. The multi-award winning firm provides on-going support for various charities and expeditions including Action for Kids, Samaritans and for swimmer and environmentalist Lewis Pugh’s on-going feats.

Panda PrintTM bamboo fibre printable fabric is a desirable “green” alternative to be used for various applications, and is compatible with aqueous, eco-solvent and UV inkjet printers. It provides excellent colour pop and trims evenly without fraying, giving finished products that clean and professional look, but without harming the environment.

Marler Haley Achieves ISO14001 Alongside Parent Group

Marler Haley, part of leading exhibition and event display solution group P3 Group have taken the lead in becoming the industry’s first, to be officially accredited with the internationally recognised ISO14001 environmental standard.  Working closely with BSI over the past year, Marler Haley together with Nimlok has been concentrating on obtaining the ISO14001 environmental management system.

Andrew Morris, Business Development Director from BSI commented;  “Whilst Marler Haley and Nimlok have had a commendable focus on the environment for many years, certification to ISO 14001 allows them to demonstrate that commitment. ISO 14001 is the internationally-recognised standard for environmental management systems. It specifies how a business should go about reducing its environmental impact, whilst maintaining profitability. BSI only issues a certificate once we are convinced that our client had implemented processes and procedures that fully comply with the standard. This has meant a great deal of hard work for the staff at Marler Haley and they should be proud of their achievement. Winning a certificate is really only the start of the process as we will return annually looking for continuous improvement in Marler Haley’s environmental management system”.

Operations Manager, Keith Richardson added; “For 37 years we have been committed to caring for the environment by using 80% recyclable material for manufacturing our products”. Marler Haley endeavour to ensure maximum recyclability of unwanted display products by offering to dispose of any exhibition display equipment no longer wanted by clients, as part of the original purchase contract.

Testament to the reusability of Marler Haley display products is the very large quantity of Marler Haley equipment still in daily use after 20 or 30 years.

Caring for the environment is something Marler Haley have always participated in; Keith commented; “when we were developing our site many years ago, we couldn’t build on the corner of our land due to discovering a colony of newts and so left the gardens as they were so they were not disturbed - forever caring for the environment!”

Upon receiving the ISO14001 standard, Group Managing Director Tim Perutz added “We are extremely proud of this huge achievement and I am grateful to all of my colleagues for their efforts made in reaching this internationally accepted environmental standard”.
